Aaahhh spring… the time for cleaning, decluttering, and taking off your pants

It’s funny how spring brings with it this renewed sense of life. They say it’s because the grass turns greener, the birds sing louder (not ideal at 5:00am), and the sun is warmer and spends more time in the sky.

Honestly, for me it’s the relief that I don’t have to wear pants. This is the beginning of sun-dress weather, meaning I can say goodbye to those judge-y marks my pants leave on my tummy. All-you-can-eat buffets are now nothing but a welcome friend.

There’s this other thing that I seem to do in spring; turn into that cleaning/domestic crazy again (remember when I talked about trying to be Martha Stewart? Yeah… we’re heading back there; I can feel it).

Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely not a bad thing. I mean, your partner might not agree when you’re throwing out all their ugly clothes, but that’s fine. That Hawaiian shirt had it coming. I just know that at some stage, you’ll no doubt be on your hands and knees scrubbing that shower. Just remember, it has a marble-look floor, so some of the ‘dirt’ stains actually aren’t. Make sure you crack a window and use non-toxic products, like these ones. Nothing kills a cleaning high like actually getting high, and ending up in the emergency department with hallucinations. We all know nobody will finish it while
you’re gone, so it doesn’t even get you a free pass.

Let’s not forget about the food. If you haven’t bought one of those fancy machines that chops, minces, boils, steams and helps your kid with their homework, you probably will soon. Unfortunately, it doesn’t clean for
you. Instead of swearing at your ugly crockery because the pasta bake won’t come off, go at it with this dishwashing bar. It’ll be easier, quicker, and get you back to your wine glass a whole lot sooner.

Finally, Spring might just be the time to renew you. No, we’re not going to tell you to how ‘lose the winter weight’ or dye your hair white-blonde. None of that is important. What we care about is making sure you’re taking care of your whole self, not just the house, the kids, and everyone else. Meditate, read a book, try
some new skin care, crochet a toilet cover for your mother-in-law, it doesn’t matter.
Whatever it is, make sure it fills your person bucket and not just your mop bucket.

Sometimes, it feels like you’re the ship captain. If you go down, the whole ship does. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself.
The last you want is a mutiny.
